Text Box: Department of Pathology at AUA

Every disease has a pathologic basis. The subject of Pathology is taught over two   semesters in AUA College of Medicine.

· Pathology -1 which covers General Pathology has 6 credit hours and is offered during the third semester of the Basic Science Course.

· Pathology -2 which covers Hematology & Systemic Pathology  has 8 credit hours and is covered during the fourth semester. Course Directors for Pathology -1 and 2 provide further guidelines to students from time to time.

Both General and Systemic Pathology have ‘Laboratory’ components and inputs are provided to students on first day of class. Interactive sessions, student presentations, optimal use of resources and keeping a record of lab proceedings are some of the methods used to enhance the Learning Experience.

Useful information is also made available to them free of cost and they can source this from the Faculty Server ( S- drive).

At times students are provided with an opportunity to watch autopsies being performed at the Holberton Hospital, Antigua. Pathology has very enthusiastic and helpful faculty.

Patholgy faculty expects students to remain focused and well motivated as this attitude improves their overall performance in USMLE Step-1 examination – which is the immediate long term goal.
