A substantial portion of the Medical License Exam is devoted to psychology and behavioral medicine. Physicians should have knowledge of psychology and why their patients behave the way they do. Dealing with psychiatric issues is also a significant part of clinical practice for most physicians. For example, general practitioners have reported that psychiatric/psychological issues amount to approximately 30% of their practice. Psychology is a very broad field and the medical student is expected to know a significant amount about every major topic in psychology and psychiatry. This course will cover information on the Doctor-Patient Relationship, Ethics, Epidemiology, Statistics, Human Development, Brain and Behavior, Human Sexuality, Psychological Theories and Therapy, Clinical Interviews, and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Psychiatry including all the major categories of Psychopathology. |
